Opening of The Mekong Elephant Park - Laos

Opened since 2008 and rebranded in 2017, the Mekong Elephant Park offers visitors the chance to discover the privileged role elephants play in Lao culture while also taking in the spectacular natural surroundings.

Designed as a pilot project for the ecotourism industry, the Mekong Elephant Park demonstrates the aim of promoting sustainable tourism and supporting a species threatened by urbanization and abuse. Living in harmony with nature is deeply embedded in the cultural consciousness of the indigenous Laotian. This is primarily due to the fact that Buddhism is the main religion in the country.

The park’s aim is also to raise awareness to support the protection of the Asian elephants. It also encourages travellers to support tourism initiatives that provide support to elephants, to improve the animals’ physical and cognitive health and to encourage reproductive opportunities.
