When is the best time to visit Thailand?

Thailand travel specialist Andre van der Marck from bespoke tour operator ASIA DMC share his experience on the best time to visit this beautiful and dynamic country.

Having lived over 15 years in Thailand I still wonder what would bet the best time to visit Thailand. It is always lovely weather to travel to Thailand to start with! It has a tropical climate year-round and it is always warm. People are very friendly and the food is simply delicious. Price/quality for a visit is very much in order still.

During the months of April till October the weather is warm, humid and it can rain a bit more than usual. The good thing about the rain is that it clears the skies and cools the temperate down a little. Also, the rain normally lasts not longer than a few hours. But what do you get in return for that…? Better airlines fares, not too busy and not too dusty at temple visits. And the great thing, hotels are very affordable!

Nakhon Pathom

The high season then kicks in from November till March/April. The air is warm but less humid and the sun is (always) shining. Rain is hardly to be found. On the other side of the dime it means that it is very busy with fellow tourists and the prices of holidays go significantly up.

In the North of Thailand, the temperatures on some days can drop down to about 5 degrees in the mountains. So if you are doing a trekking during this period, be prepared, bring some warm clothing to spend the night.

The beaches in Thailand can be visited year-round, but for the best stays, here is my suggestion for what destination to visit best when.

November till March: West coast of Thailand such as Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi, Koh Lanta, Koh Kradan and Koh Lipe.

April till October: East coast of Thailand such as Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan.

The islands closer to Bangkok, Koh Samed and Koh Chang do have a few wet months though (July till September). However, they are at driving distance from Bangkok and thus no need to take domestic flights or (overnight) trains.

Samut Songkhram

Of course, that leaves us with the Royal Beach destination, Hua Hin. During August and September, it can rain a bit more but again, the great advantage is that it is less than 4 hours’ drive from Bangkok.

Whenever you decide to travel to Thailand, there’s always a possible option for you. You can contact me or Thailand team for more information.
