Buddhist Lent or the “Rain Retreats” is one of the most important religious practices in South East Asia. The end of three-month Buddhist Lent is called Thadingyut in Myanmar and Boun Awk Phansa in Laos. It usually falls in October and has become the public holidays in many countries such as Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.

The Royal Cremation for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej is scheduled for 25-29 October 2017. Thursday, 26 October, will be the royal cremation day and it has been declared a public holiday.

The Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew) will be closed for about a month, starting from September 30th, to prepare for the Royal funeral of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Founded in 1998, Animals Asia is a registered charity with bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam, headquarters in Hong Kong, and offices in Australia, China, Germany, Italy, the UK, USA and Vietnam. The organization promotes compassion and respect for all animals and works to bring about long-term change. It works to end the barbaric bear bile trade, which sees over 10,000 bears kept on bile farms in China, and, according to official figures, about 1,200 suffering the same fate in Vietnam.

Paung Daw Oo Pagoda, located in the Shan State, is the most famous pagoda of Inle Lake and houses five sacred Buddha images. Once a year the Buddha images are ceremonially rowed along the lake, attracting people from throughout regions to come to gain merit and enjoy festivities.
