Explore the first religious landmark in Nakhon Pathom

Nakhon Pathom is a province in Central Thailand, around 50 km northwest of Bangkok. The province's capital city, Nakhon Pathom, is one of the oldest cities in Thailand. In the ancient Pali language this means “the first city”.

Nakhon Pathom has a number of attractions that is great within easy reach of Kanchanaburi for a day trip or if time is limited you can stop over on the way there, or back. The city is famed for the various archeological and religious artifacts that have been found here over time. Phra Pathom Chedi, for example, is known as the first historic landmark signifying the introduction of Buddhism to Thailand. Nakhon Pathom is also well known for pomelo and is often referred to in the local dialect as ‘Nakhon Pathom’, or the sweet pomelo town.

You will also have the chance to sample “Khao Tung Hna Tung”, which directly translates to “crusty rice with shrimp dip”, a regional Thai delicacy.
