Away from it all
23rd January 2017Located in Southeastern Myanmar, Dawei is the capital of the Tanintharyi division. This area just opened for tourism since 2013 so it still retains many traditional wooden buildings, an easy access to unspoiled beaches and characterful fishing villages.
Dawei Rocky Beach
In addition to countless beautiful and unexplored beaches, this sleepy tropical town owns a long history of trade and colonial architecture, with many superb traditional wooden houses decorated finely; thatch-roofed bungalows as well as some brick and stucco mansions. The Shwe Taung Zar Pagoda is the main religious site in Dawei, and is set in a charming little complex.

A short walk following streets lined with colonial era-buildings from the centre of Dawei makes for a very authentic and rewarding experience. In the town centre, the busy Si Pin Tharyar and Minagalar markets are worth a visit – they can be found opposite to each other. Discovering undeveloped beaches by motorcycle is a fun way to explore the peninsula to the west of Dawei like to Tizit beach (about 2 hours) with white sand and clear water.
