New National Park Established in Cao Bang, Vietnam

The Vietnamese government has approved plans to establish a new national park in the northern province of Cao Bang. Phia Oac-Phia Den National Park covers an area of some 10,600 hectares across four communes and the town of Tinh Tuc Town in Nguyen Binh district.

The park used to be a nature preservation area, but following the establishment of the national park authorities are planning to increase the green coverage from 84% in 2016 to 95% by 2030, creating a more conducive environment for flora and fauna to thrive. The aim is to protect the local ecology and biodiversity, including 90 species of plant and 58 rare animals.

The park has three functional zones: a strictly protected zone, ecological recovery zone and administrative zone. The first zone covers more than 4,000 hectares.
